International Coach Federation - Advancing the Art, Science, and Practice of Professional Coaching

Why I Chose The International Coach Federation (ICF)

When I first began exploring the field of coaching in 2001 I was excited to see that it was a real and established industry with a global credentialing organization and accredited coaching schools. I have always been one to cover my bases and “do it right” and for me that meant getting trained through an International Coach Federation coaching program and acquiring credentials.

Coaching is a very powerful course of development that delves deeply into the lives and businesses of those coached. It is only a matter of time before credentialing becomes legally required as it is for lawyers and healthcare providers. When that happens, I believe the ICF will be the standard by which all coaches in North America will be measured.

“Formed in 1995, today the ICF is the leading global organization, with over 17,000 members, dedicated to advancing the coaching profession by setting high professional standards, providing independent certification, and building a network of credentialed coaches. We exist to support and advance the coaching profession through programs and standards supported by our members and to be an authoritative source on coaching information and research for the public” ~

Do You Need to Hire A Credentialed Coach?

When I entered the industry I was a bit of a “credentialing snob”. Coaching changed my life, my coach training was profound and the impact coaching had on my clients was nothing short of mind-blowing so I saw credentialed coaches as cornering the market on the “real genius” of this work and was suspect of anyone who had not been through coach-specific training.

I have since changed my mind.

After spending over a decade in the industry I have come to realize that the roots of this work go way back and people coming through a number of different development paths have the tools to be excellent coaches.

With that being said, Fortune 500 companies are more and more seeking coaches with credentials and for good reason. Many people have jumped on the coaching bandwagon because it is hot and growing and, without credentials, you may not know what you are getting. Not every certified coach is going to be a fit for your or your business but even at the lowest level of certification you know that your ICF certified coach has completed and passed their accredited training program, is a proven entity having completed a minimum of client coaching hours and are bound to adhering to a strict ethical code. You can read the ICF Code of Conduct here.

I am proud to be an International Coach Federation certified coach and I am grateful for the leadership the ICF has shown in shaping this industry and the lives of all it touches.

I look forward to bringing my education, experience and credentials in service of what is most important to you and your business.

To Your Success!
